(York, Pa.) – York College first-year Erica Mulford scored on a free position with just six seconds remaining in the half of the first overtime period to secure a 9-8 win over visiting Dickinson in women's lacrosse on Wednesday. The Spartans held a slim 5-4 lead at halftime with the Devils forcing overtime with a 4-3 advantage in the second half.

The Spartans took an early 2-0 lead behind a free position goal from Whitney Kendall and the 21st goal of the season for Kim Wayson. Wayson finished an assist from Kasie White at the 24:44 mark.

The Red Devils answered with three straight goals in a span of just 1:26, including a pair of tallies from senior Kelsey Muir (Glen Mills, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame). Wayson responded with an unassisted goal at the 18 minute mark to tie the game, 3-3.

First-year Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) struck off a beautiful feed from senior Maggie Peeke (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) to put the Devils in front with 16:13 remaining in the half.

Wayson found the net at the 5:33 mark and Mulford scored off an assist from Melissa Ritchie with just 14 seconds on the clock to give the Spartans a 5-4 lead at halftime. The Devils wasted little time after the break as sophomore Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) tied the game with an assist from classmate Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) just 49 seconds into the second half.

Wayson came up big for York again, just 17 second later, triggering a three-goal run as Sam Smith scored back-to-back, the first off a nice find by Kendall to lead 8-5.

The Devils continued to battle, scoring three unanswered goals down the stretch to tie the game, 8-8. Junior Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) intercepted a pass and scored off the counter at the 15:30 mark. Manoli pulled the Devils within a goal, scoring on an assist from senior Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) with 12:01 on the clock.

Manoli struck again with 2:36 to play, giving the Devils new life and forcing overtime. Both teams had possessions in the final minutes but were unable to net the game-winner.

The teams played scoreless through the first half of the first overtime until a foul with six seconds remaining put Mulford on the eight-meter hash. She converted the free-position goal to put York in front 9-8.

That would be the final as the Devils were unable to net the equalizer. The Spartans gained possession and were able to run out the clock as they remain unbeaten at 5-0 on the season.

Wayson finished with a game-high four goals while Katie Vaultier controlled five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Tina Nicholas made eight saves in goal.

Manoli led the Devils with three goals while Muir finished with a pair. First-year Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) controlled five draws while Ko tallied four draws and caused a pair of turnovers. Sophomore Chloe Golod (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) picked-up three ground balls. Senior Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) made eight saves in goal and controlled three ground balls.

The Red Devils (2-3) return home to face Cabrini College on Friday at 4:00.
