Red Devils Suffer New Year's Eve Setback

(Whittier, Calif.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered an 83-58 setback to Emmanuel College (Mass.), on Sunday afternoon at Whittier College.

The Saints broke a 5-5 tie to close out the opening quarter with a 10-4 run to lead, 15-9 at the first break.

In the second, sophomore Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored back-to-back baskets and later hit a free throw as the Red Devils cut the deficit to 18-16.

Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) put Dickinson in front with a three-pointer but Christine Miller answered with one of her own on the other end to give Emmanuel a 23-21 advantage.

Heiring tied the game and senior Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) gave the Devils a 25-23 lead before the Saints made another run to go in front, 37-27, at halftime.

The Saints held the Devils to just 13 points in the third quarter, stretching the margin to 68-40. Dickinson had a stronger offensive output in the fourth, outscoring Emmanuel, 18-15, in the final quarter.

Lesher controlled a game-high 16 rebounds while matching a team-high with 14 points. Heiring hit 7-of-8 free throws to finish with 14 points as well. Padalino tallied eight points and seven rebounds.

First-year Hannah Peck (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) hit 3-of-4 shots for eight points while Mairead Donahue (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) came away with three steals, three rebounds and blocked shot.

The Red Devils slip to 2-8 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Haverford College for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
