Red Devils Suffer Setback in Season Finale



(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to close out the season, falling at Franklin & Marshall, 72-54, on Saturday afternoon.


The Red Devils used a strong start to hold a 12-5 lead in the opening minutes. The Diplomats pulled within one at the 10:13 mark, and took their first lead of the game with 5:52 remaining in the half.


A steal and lay-up by Elizabeth Snyder put F&M in front by eight in the final minute. The hosts would head into halftime with a 34-28 advantage. The Diplomats used an 8-3 run to open the second half, extending the lead to 44-31.


The lead would remain in double figures for the rest of the game. The Red Devils continued to battle but could not make up any ground on the scoreboard.


Alexa Barbush led the way for F&M, scoring a game-high 21 points to go with six assists and four steals. Snyder finished with 15 points and seven rebounds as the Diplomats finish 8-17 overall and 5-15 in the Centennial Conference.


Senior Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff, Pa.) led the Red Devils with 16 points and five rebounds. Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) and Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) each reached double-figures with 10 points. Finnerty added five rebounds and a pair of assists while Borgese went 4-for-4 from the line and handed out three assists.


Senior Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) tallied seven points, three rebounds and three assists, and first-year Megan Layman (Warren, Conn./Wamogo) chipped in with five points and four rebounds.


The Red Devils finished 13-11 on the year, and 9-11 in the conference.
