Homa Strikes Out Seven in Devil Win

 

 

(Tucson, Arizona) – The Dickinson softball team held off a late rally to split a series with Baldwin Wallace, winning 4-3 on Monday.

 

The Red Devils scored in the first inning. Junior Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) led-off the game with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. She scored on an RBI single from Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh).

 

The Red Devils added a pair of runs in the fourth, capitalizing on a pair of errors. First-year Lindsay Zwecker (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) tripled and scored on a single from Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro).

 

Garlinger later came in to score as Swade reached on an error. Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) drew a lead-off walk in the fifth, and moved to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts. The first led to an error as Edelson reached safely.

 

Zwecker added an RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Diztler with would prove to be a key insurance run.

 

Baldwin-Wallace used two hits and took advantage of a Red Devil error to score two runs in the sixth inning. They used the same combination to tack on another run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded a strikeout to end the game. She earned the win, recording seven strikeouts in a complete game effort, allowing just one earned run.

 

Ditzler went 1-for-2, scoring a run and reaching on a pair of walks. Garlinger added a hit, run, RBI and drew a walk while Zwecker tallied a hit, run and RBI as well. Micki Crouch (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) added a hit as well.

 

The Red Devils improve to 2-1 on the season. They are scheduled to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Monday night.
