Jordan Homers Devils to Split at F&M
(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team split a double-header at Franklin & Marshall to close out its Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday. The Red Devils won the opener 3-0, but dropped the nightcap, 3-2.
Sophomore Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded nine strikeouts to win the opener, scattering five hits.
Junior Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Devils on the board, 2-0.
First-year Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) doubled in the fifth and came in to score on a sacrifice fly from classmate Erin Owens (Fayetteville, Ga./Woodward Academy) to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Swade went 2-for-3 in the opener while Jordan added a pair of hits, going 2-for-4.
The Diplomats scored two runs on three hits, using a double and a triple in the third inning. The Devils answered with lone runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. Swade doubled again and eventually came in to score on a wild pitch.
Dickinson capitalized on a pair of Diplomats errors in the fifth. Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) drew and walk and pinch-runner Reiva Keith (Sanbornton, N.H./New Hampton School) would cross the plate with the help of two errors and a passed ball.
F&M scored the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on a Devil error, securing the split, 3-2.
Homa suffered the loss, despite a great effort, striking out five and allowing just three hits. Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) went 2-for-3 as the Devils were held to just three hits in the nightcap.
The Red Devils fall to 11-23 overall and 7-9 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to travel to Albright College for a double-header on Tuesday afternoon.
