Fours Devils Earn All-Centennial Honors, Jordan Named Pitcher of the Year
2011 All-Conference Softball Team
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team earned four spots on the 2011 All-Centennial Conference softball team, announced this week. Senior pitcher Allison Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was a First-team selection and also named the conference Pitcher of the Year.
Seniors Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) were also selected to the First-team while first-year Chelsea Homa (Newton, Conn./Newton) was named to the Second-team as a pitcher. Jordan makes her fourth appearance on the All-Conference team, earning Second-team honors in 2007, 2008 and 2010. Sisco earned First-team honors in 2010 while Murtaugh was a First-team selection in 2008 and earned Honorable mention in 2009.
Jordan capped a stellar career with an outstanding season to closeout her collegiate career. She won 12 games on the year, recording a career-best 211 strikeouts, retiring 52 batters looking in the process. Jordan led the Centennial Conference with a 1.02 earned-run-average while holding opponents to a .162 batting average on the year.
Jordan was fourth in the conference, allowing just 36 runs to score on her watch. Remarkably, Homa and classmate Liz Barry (Millis, Mass./Noble & Greenough) held the top two spots in the CC in that category. In earned runs allowed, the Devils held the top three spots as well in the order of Homa, Jordan and Barry.
Jordan's 211 strikeouts raised her career total to an incredible 661. She averaged more than one strikeout per inning, posting a career ERA of 1.02 in 590.2 innings of work. She recorded a pair of perfect games in 2011. She followed the first with a back-to-back shutout and tossed the second of her career, following a 16-strikeout performance in the opener at Muhlenberg. She was just one shy of her own conference and school record of 17 strikeouts in a game, set back in April of this year.
Murtaugh earned the First-team spot behind the plate, also putting the finishing touches on a remarkable career. Murtaugh was in contention for Player of the Year, posting some extraordinary numbers. She hit .396 this season, recording 42 hits, driving in 21 runs behind nine doubles, seven homeruns and a triple. Murtaugh led the CC with a .698 slugging percentage.
Murtaugh tied her own school record for the second time, launching seven homeruns for the third straight campaign after breaking the school record with five in her rookie season. She hit well over .300 in each of her four seasons (.357, .330, .346, .396) to post a .358 career average at the plate. Murtaugh ranks in the career top ten in at least 10 categories, including school records in homeruns, RBIs, slugging percentage, total bases and intentional walks.
The graduation of Sisco will have a definite impact on both the softball and women's basketball programs. A standout in both sports, Sisco makes her second straight appearance as a First-team outfielder. She capped a great career with a strong senior campaign as well. Sisco was one of the team leaders with a .324 batting average, ranking third with 33 hits, driving in 17 runs and scoring 15 on the year.
Sisco hit over .300 in each the past three seasons, hitting a remarkable .389 behind a career-best 44 hits in 2010. On the school career lists, Sisco was just shy of the top 10 in numerous categories. She ranks seventh with 26 career doubles and is tied for 10th in steals, swiping 23-of-26, including 11-of-12 this season. She reached the century mark in hits, ranking 11th with 118. She is 11th in career RBIs as well, driving in 61 over four years. Sisco was perfect in the field in 2011, committing no errors in 36 chances.
On the other end of the spectrum, first-year Chelsea Homa earned a spot on the Second-team as a pitcher. She led the CC in fewest runs and earned runs allowed this season. She ranked third in ERA at 1.73 and fourth in opponent batting average (.252). Homa recorded 68 strikeouts on the year, averaging just over one per inning.
Homa recorded a career-best 13 strikeouts in a shutout win in Arizona. She held opponents to less than five hits in 11 of her appearances in 2011.
The Devils set team records this spring, recording 290 strikeouts and posting 12 shutouts. They were one shy of the team record for homeruns, hitting 10 on the year. The Red Devils finished 12-4 in the Centennial Conference to earn the top seed on the playoffs. They posted a 20-17 mark, going 11-3 at home.
