Devil Softball Wins Two on Tuesday

(Tucson, Arizona) – Following a tough 0-6 start against some quality competition, the Dickinson College softball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday, defeating Anoka Ramsey College 13-4 and the College of Staten Island, 8-0.

 

The Red Devils pounded out 13 hits in the win over Anoka. They pushed across a pair of runs in the first and second innings and erupted with a six-run sixth for the first win of the season. Senior Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and walk, scoring two runs and driving in a third.

 

Junior Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark Academy) drove in two runs and scored twice, going 2-for-4. Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) and Melissa Osborn (Stevensonville, Md./Kent Island) each recorded a pair of hits and two runs as well while Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) and a two-RBI double.

 

Haines earned the win in the circle as well, recording 11 strikeouts while allowing just four hits and one earned run.

 

Sophomore Rachel Jordan (Medford, N.J./Sewanee) led-off the second inning with a double, and scored on an RBI single from Haines. Haines came around off the bat of Budnik to put the Devils up, 2-0. Osborn singled in Gerish in the third to stretch the lead to 3-0.

 

Gerish drove in three more Devils in a four-run rally in the fourth inning. Budnik drove in Osborn in the fifth to five Dickinson an 8-0 victory.

 

First-year Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) pitched a complete game shutout for her first collegiate win, recording seven strikeouts on the day.

 

The Red Devils face Schreiner College and Augsburg on Thursday before wrapping up spring break with games against Marian and Husson on Friday.
