Cross Country to Host Regionals on Saturday

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men and women's cross country teams will host the 2017 NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, at Big Spring High School, in Newville, Pa.

The Red Devil women, ranked 23rd nationally and third in the regional poll, look to keep the momentum going from their second place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships.

Senior Sofia Canning (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) ran to First-team All-Conference honors for the third straight season, posting her best finish at conferences, capturing third overall with a time of 21:37. 

Sophomore Tessa Cassidy (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) crossed the line ninth to earn Second-team honors, posting a mark of 22:20.

They will lead the Red Devils in the second race, scheduled for 12:15 pm.

The Red Devil men will look to All-Conference runners Bryce Descavish (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and Eric Herrmann (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) to set the pace in the opening race at 11:00 am.

Descavish ran to First-team honors, placing seventh overall with a time of 25:47. He was the top finishing first-year last fall, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2016.

He earned All-Region honors last season, finishing 34th overall. Descavish was the second first-year to cross the line as well, and was named to the All-Mideast Freshman Team.

Herrmann claimed Second-team honors, placing ninth overall with a time of 25:51. He had a great start to the season, winning the Little Three Championship to lead the Red Devils to their 21stconsecutive team title.
