(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's cross country team placed second overall in the combined scoring at the Long/Short Invitational on Saturday, finishing just one point behind Division I Bucknell, 45-46.
The Red Devils also place second in the 4K event, tying with Misiricordia with 17 points. Misericordia's fourth runner placed higher, giving them the tie-breaker. The Devils were fourth in the 8K race, finishing behind Messiah (22), Bucknell (25) and Muhlenberg (28) with 29 points.
Sophomore Bryce Descavish (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) led Dickinson in the 4K, placing third while Eric Herrmann (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) crossed the line fourth. Billy Dougherty (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added a top-10 showing, placing 10th, while Thomas Riordan (Campbell, S.C./Landrum) was in the top-20 with an 18th place finish.
On the long course, junior Duncan Hopkins (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led the way, finishing third overall while senior Nathan Udell (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) came in sixth. Senior Kyle Fitch (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) claimed final top-20 spot as well.
20 teams and 148 runners competed in the 4K while 152 athletes from 22 schools ran the long course. The Red Devils are off next weekend but return to action on October 14th at the Rowan Invitational.
