Hepner Caps Great Career at NCAA Championships

(Geneva, Ohio) – Dickinson senior Mason Hepner (Mount Joy, Pa./Manheim Central) made a strong move to the front of the pack at the midpoint of the trials of the 1500 meters but was unable to hold on at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Hepner finished 15th overall in the championship field to cap an outstanding senior season and a brilliant career, making appearances at both the 2017 Indoor and Outdoor National Championships. He finished with a time of 3:56.18 on Thursday afternoon.

Hepner ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 1500 meters during the season. He turned in a strong performance at the Centennial Conference Championships and was named the Track Performer of the Year for the outdoor season.

He won the 1500 and anchored the 4x800 relay to a win to earn First-team All-Conference honors in both events. He added a third-place finish in the 800 meters and a week later broke the school record in that event with a time of 1:52.39 at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier.

Hepner earned All-Region honors in the 1500 meters this season as well and broke school indoor records in the 800 and 1000 meters, and holds records as the anchor of both the 4x800 and 4x1600 meter relays.
