(Naperville, Ill.) – Dickinson senior Mason Hepner (Mount Joy, Pa./Manheim Central) broke his own school record in the mile at the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
Hepner broke his mark of 4:12.80, set last week at the Ursinus Final Qualifier to earn his spot at nationals. He placed 10th in the final, crossing the line with a new record time of 4:12.73.
He went out strong, staying with the lead pack for the better part of the race. SUNY Geneseo's Isaac Garcia Cassani pulled away to win the event in a time of 4:07.77, less than a second off the championship meet record pace.
Hepner had an outstanding indoor season, breaking school records in the 800, mile and with the 4x800 and 4x1600 meter relays. His qualifying time in the mile was second in the Mideast, earning him All-Region honors. He won the Centennial Conference title in the 800 meters and the 4x800 relay, and claimed silver in the mile.
