Dickinson surges past Ursinus for key CC victory

 

 

(Carlisle, Pa.) - Dickinson men's tennis combined for an exceptional team effort to surge past Ursinus College 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

 

David London's Red Devils owned two of three doubles matches and four of six singles flights to secure their second Centennial Conference win at the Hayes Tennis Courts.

 

Dickinson's first doubles duo of junior Erik Dinardo (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) and first-year Clark Chapman (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) put together an impressive 9-7 win.

 

In the second slot, junior Josh Kaseff (Westport, Conn./Staples) and sophomore Evan Davis (Westport, Conn./Staples) dropped an 8-2 decision, but third singles pair of senior captain Ari Blask (Chevy Chase, Md./Charles E. Smith) and first-year Steven Kaplan (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) rebounded for the 8-4 win.

 

Blask suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback in the first singles flight.

 

Chapman continued the next chapter in his stellar rookie campaign, answering the call in second singles with a decisive 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory.

 

Dinardo came up short in a close 6-4, 6-3 decision in third singles, while Kaplan cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the fourth flight.

 

First year Jackson Claudio (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) returned after a back injury to record a 6-3, 6-3 win fifth singles.

 

Kaseff turned in the final singles win, 6-2, 6-1 in the sixth flight.

 

Dickinson (4-6, 2-2 CC) returns to Centennial Conference action on Tuesday at Gettysburg.

 

The Red Devils will hit the road and prep for first serves at 4:00 pm in Gettysburg, Pa.
