Red Devil Men Suffer Setback at Swarthmore
(Swarthmore, Pa) – The Dickinson men's swim team came up short in its regular season finale at Swarthmore on Saturday. The Red Devils suffered a 111-94 setback, slipping to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils had a strong start, winning the 400 medley relay. Sophomore Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) led-off the race as Dickinson posted a time of 3:42.28. Miles touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke (2:00.73) and placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.34.
Senior Ed Barnard (Springfield, Pa./Haverford School) joined the medley relay, and had a triple-win afternoon. He captured the 200 breaststroke (2:17.75), and held off teammate Kevin Chibbaro (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) in the 50 freestyle, 22.55-22.76, as they went one-two in the event. Chibbaro raced to the win in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 49.63.
First-year Theo Hubbard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) had another strong outing. He won the 200 butterfly (1:57.33) and placed second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:14.36. Junior Michael Mason (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) showed well in the distance events, placing second in the 500 (5:04.30) and third in the 1000 (10:27.89).
Cameron Phillips (Woburn, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) and Zach Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) rounded out the 400 medley relay and posted third place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:01.72) and the 200 individual medley (2:04.75), respectively.
The Red Devils are next scheduled to compete at the Centennial Conference Championships, host by Franklin & Marshall in two weeks.
