(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee announced the field of 62 teams for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. Dickinson has earned an at-large bid and will face Emory University in the opening round on Saturday, November 11, at Lynchburg College.
Lynchburg is scheduled to host Penn State Abington in the other first round match-up at 2:00 pm, with the second match set to start at approximately 4:30 pm. The winners will advance to the second round on Sunday, also hosted by Lynchburg, with a 4:00 pm kick-off.
The Red Devils put together a solid season and capitalized on a strong strength of schedule to earn the at-large bid. They advanced through the Centennial Conference Tournament, posting a 5-0 win over Haverford and turning back top-seed and #20-ranked Johns Hopkins in penalty kicks in the semifinal, after the teams played to a 2-2 draw in double-overtime.
Dickinson suffered a 1-0 setback to Franklin & Marshall in the championship match, despite a great effort from the Red Devils. They stand at 11-6-3 overall and proved to be the most offensively productive team in the conference, scoring 51 goals and matching Johns Hopkins with 33 assists on the year.
Winners of the opening rounds will advance to four sectional sites to determine who will advance to the national semifinals. The final four will take place Dec. 1 at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro Sports Commission serving as hosts. The national championship game is scheduled for Dec. 2.
