Gilbert Scores Back-to-Back in Second Straight Game

(Dallas, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first half at the University of Misericordia, adding two goals in the second half for a 5-0 win on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Brendan McGovern (Burlington, Vt./Montclair Kimberley Academy) put the Red Devils on the board in the eighth minute with an assist from first-year Tayler Eynon (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day).

Sophomore Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) tallied back-to-back goals for the second straight outing, scoring off assists from senior Ryan Brown (Schwencksville, Pa./Moravian Academy) in the 24th minute and again, six minutes later to stretch the lead to 3-0.

First-year goaltender Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) turned away a strong shot, 10 minutes into the second half as the Cougars continued to provide a challenge.

Junior Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) capitalized on a free kick, stretching the margin to 4-0, with just over 21 minutes remaining. The Red Devils struck again on a free kick as senior Lucas Masiado (Ambler, Pa./Saucon Valley) drove a low shot inside the left post from 21 yards out, with just under eight minutes to play.

The teams were even in shots for the game at 13, but the Red Devils put seven of those attempts on target. Drew Javie and Patrick Hoffman each made a save for Misericordia as the Cougars slip to 0-11 on the season.

Meagher stopped both shots he faced as the Red Devils posted their fifth shutout of the season, improving to 7-3-1 overall.

The Red Devils return to Centennial Conference action on Friday night at 6:00 pm, hosting Washington College to open homecoming weekend.
