(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #24-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team survived its regular season finale with Washington College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils celebrated senior day as they secured their spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs.
Senior Luca May (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) made his senior day, one to remember, scoring the lone goal of the match on a penalty kick. The Red Devils drew the penalty in the 27th minute and classmate Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador) deferred the honor of the kick to May.
May converted on what proved to be the only goal of the day. Washington turned in a valiant effort to keep the Red Devil attack in check. In addition to facing a potent offensive attack, the Shoremen received a pair of red cards in the opening half, putting Dickinson two men up for the remainder of the match.
Sam Draper was sent off in the 15th minute and Dimitri Kaliakin was directed to follow, just over six minutes later.
The Red Devils controlled the flow of play for the better part of the match, holding a 27-3 advantage in shots. Dickinson also forced nine corners while allowing just three, defensively.
Jon Wendeborn made 13 saves in goal for Washington. They finish the season, 8-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the Centennial Conference. First-year Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) earned the shutout with one save on the afternoon.
The Red Devils improve to 12-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play. Dickinson will learn its seed and opponent at the conclusion of Saturday evening's matches.
