Men's Soccer Earns Top Spot in Centennial Preseason Poll
(Lancaster, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's soccer team earned the top spot in the Centennial Conference preseason coaches poll, announced on Wednesday. The Red Devils captured the program's first Centennial Conference Championship in 2011 and will be highly motivated to defend their title in 2012.
The Centennial has proven to be one the top and most competitive conferences in the country, and 2012 expects to offer much of the same. Dickinson earned the top spot in the coaches poll with 73 votes, collecting four place place nods. Johns Hopkins tallied four first-place votes as well, ranking second with 71 votes while Muhlenberg was in the mix as well, recording 69 votes.
The Red Devils finished 11-5-5 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play last fall. The turned away Muhlenberg, 2-0, in the semifinal and captured the title in a shootout with Haverford to break a 1-1 tie and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Dickinson posted a 2-1 win over Vassar College in the opening round of the NCAA playoffs before falling to Montclair State, 2-1, in double-overtime.
The Red Devils open the 2012 campaign on September 1st, traveling to Catholic University for a 12:00 pm start. They begin defense of their conference title on September 15th when they host Washington College in their Centennial opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
