Red Devils Rally to Win Kickoff Classic Title

(Williamsport, Pa.)- The Dickinson College men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three second half goals to defeat Lycoming, 3-2. First-year Shepherd Waldenberger (Madison, Va./Madison County) tallied the game-winner and assisted on the other two Devil goals.

 

Dickinson captured the Kickoff Classic title and earned three spots on the All-Tournament team. Joining Waldenberger were seniorZach Pritchard (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill) and junior Thomas Parkinson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield).

 

Lycoming struck almost immediately as Mike Coates put the Warriors on the board in just 34 seconds with an assist from Joe Karslo.

 

Randon Wilston scored off a two-on-one break, assisted by Scott Hordis in the seventh minute to put Lycoming in front 2-0.

 

Waldenberger served a ball into the area in the 51st minute. SeniorMagen Mintz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) was on the receiving end, netting the Devils' first goal at the 50:57 mark.

 

Waldenberger fed Parkinson seven minutes later to tie the game, then finished a rebound off the post with the game-winner at the 60:25 mark.

 

The game couldn't have been much closer statistically with Dickinson holding a 12-11 advantage in shots. Lycoming had a 3-2 edge in corners.

 

Senior James Van Meerbeke (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) andChristian Hall (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) split time in goal, each recording two saves.

 

The Red Devils improve to 3-0 on the season. They return home to host Denison University next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
