Top 20 Showdown Sends #19 Bullets to CC Final

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The #14-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team suffered a 13-6 setback at #19-Gettysburg College in the Centennial Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils put a pair of goals on the board in the opening five minutes as Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) started things off and Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) capitalized on a man-up opportunity, scoring on an assist from Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven).

The Bullets closed out the opening quarter with a 4-0 run to lead at the end of the first, 4-2.

Maher finished an assist from Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) before another 4-0 clip put the hosts in front, 8-3. Phillips found the net with an assist from Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) to make the score, 8-4, at the break.

Gettysburg tallied a pair of extra-man goals in the third quarter as they extended the lead to 12-4, and Sean Fumai opened the fourth with another for a 13-4 advantage.

John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) scored at the 4:29 mark and fed Hosker for the final tally of the game, with 3:48 remaining.

Sophomore Bobby Hartwick (Brookville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won 12 face-offs and controlled five grounds balls while junior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) made five saves and tallied a pair of GBs. Junior Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) tallied four GBs as well.

Gettysburg improves to 11-5 overall and will face the winner of the semifinal between Franklin & Marshall and Swarthmore in the title game on Saturday.

The Red Devils slip to 12-4 overall and will now await a possible NCAA at-large bid.
