#15 Diplomats Rally Late to Escape 9-8

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #13-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker in a top-20 showdown at Biddle Field as #15-ranked Franklin & Marshall scored in the final seconds to claim a 9-8 decision and remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play at 7-0.

The Devils struck first as long pole Jack Doran (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford School) made a great run, feeding Connor Murphy (Summit, N.J./Summit), who dished a beautiful assist to Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) at the midpoint of the first quarter.

Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) scored twice and tallied an assist as the Devils took a 5-1 lead into halftime.

The Diplomats came out strong in the third quarter, netting three straight goals to pull within one at the 5:19 mark.

Carney found Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) for a brief two-goal cushion before George Briggs made the scored, 6-5, at the end of the third.

First-year Steve Ganelin (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) ripped a shot into the back of the cage off an assist from Carney to start the final period.

Carney fed Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) for the second time to answer a Sean Rogers tally, putting the Devils up, 8-6, with 5:19 on the clock.

The Diplomats struck with the final three goals of the game, scoring the final with just under two seconds remaining to escape with the win.

Carney led the Devils with two goals and three assists, adding four ground balls. Doran collected four GBs as well, giving a great effort on defense. Junior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) did all he could in the nets, making 16 saves on the night, including seven in the final quarter.

Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won six face-offs and picked up three GBs.

The Red Devils slip to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference. They are currently tied with Gettysburg for second in the standings and will close out the regular season at Ursinus with a 3:00 pm face-off in Collegeville on Saturday.
