Haire Repeats as Four Red Devils Earn All-American Honors

 

 

2011 USILA All-America Team

 

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Coming off a program-best 17 wins, the Dickinson College men's lacrosse team earned four spots on the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III All-America team. Sophomore long-stick midfielder, Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) leads the way, earning Third-team honors. Senior John Haire (Darien, Conn./Darien) made his second straight appearance on the All-America squad, earning Honorable mention with sophomores Christian Beitel (A, Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Greg Hanley (GK, Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor).

 

The Red Devils captured their first Centennial Conference championship, earning the top-seed in the tournament with an unbeaten (8-0) record in conference play. The Devils held-off Gettysburg, 6-5, in the title game to earn their second straight invitation to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Dickinson advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals before falling to eventual national champion, Salisbury University.

 

Palladino earned First-team All-Centennial Conference honors for the second straight season. He was one of the conference leaders in ground balls controls (72) and caused turnovers (47), playing a key role on the Red Devil face-off unit. He was also a major component in the Devils' transition game, and added four goals and four assists in primarily a defensive role.

 

Beitel capitalized on a great opportunity early in the season and went on to lead the Red Devils in scoring with 40 goals and 13 assists on the year. He is the first Devil to lead the Centennial in scoring, earing First-team All-Centennial honors on attack. He tallied five goals and an assist against Montclair State and moved into a starting role for the rest of the season. He led the Devils with four game-winning goals on the year.

 

Senior captain John Haire made his second appearance on the All-America team. He was a two-time First-team All-Centennial selection on defense. He consistently drew the toughest assignment and proved to be one of the top shutdown defenders in the history of the program and the Centennial Conference. As a long-pole defender, he was a valuable asset in transition with speed and strong stick skills.

 

In the crease, sophomore Greg Hanley played with the poise of a veteran. He tallied a season-high 13 saves in a thrilling, 14-13, win over Roanoke and stopped 12 shots in the quarterfinal match-up at Salisbury. He ranked second in the Centennial Conference and fifth in the country in save percentage (.642) while holding a remarkable 7.35 goals-against-average over 18 games.

 

The Red Devils finished 17-2 overall, going unbeaten in the Centennial Conference and at home in 2011. Head coach Dave Webster '88 was voted the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
