Red Devils Rain Threes in NCAA Round One Win



(Wooster, Ohio) – The Dickinson men's basketball team knocked-down 10 three-pointers, nine in the second half, to rally past SUNY-Geneseo, 83-76, in the opening round of the NCAA Championship Tournament on Friday night. The Red Devils' 10 three-pointers break the school record with 218 on the season.


The Red Devils struck first and led until the midpoint of the first half. Geneseo took its first lead of the contest at the 10:47 mark, 17-16, on jumper from Gordon Lyons. Geneseo stretched the lead to five as Andy Drescher buried a three-pointer with 9:42 on the clock.


Drescher hit another three to give the Knights a 10-point lead, and Lyons hit a jumper to put Geneseo up, 37-27, with 2:38 remaining in the half.


The Red Devils cut the lead to five at the break, as Geneseo held a 37-32 advantage.


Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) led a long range assault in the second half, triggered by and old fashion three-point play.


The Red Devils took control of the game, connecting on five straight three-pointers to take a 69-58 lead, with 6:09 on the clock.


The Knights continued to battle but three-pointers from Honig and Angradi, gave Dickinson a 77-71 lead, with 1:23 left to play. Senior co-captains Honig and Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) combined to hit six free throws in the final 48 seconds to secure the win.


Angradi sank five three-pointers, all in the second half to finish with 18 points on the night. Honig led the Red Devils with a game-high 24 points, adding five rebounds and four assists.


Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) reached double-figures with 13 points. Landy tallied eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in another strong outing.


Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds, in just 11 minutes of action. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds.


Lyons led Geneseo with 23 points. Drescher added 16 as five Knights reached double-figures. The Knights finish the season, 21-7.


The Red Devils win a school record, 22nd game to improve to 22-6 on the season. They advance to Saturday's, second round match-up with the winner of #8-ranked Wooster and Saint Vincent.
