(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead en route to an 80-65 win over Marietta College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

Junior guard Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) scored his 1,000th career-point, scoring a game-high 32 points, hitting 5-of-7 three-pointers, handing out four assists and controlling eight rebounds. He shot the lights out, hitting 12-of-15 shots on the night.

Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding eight rebounds and a pair of assists. Classmate Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) tallied eight points, two assists and a pair of steals. He once again, ignited the capacity crowd in the Kline Center with a pair of thundering dunks as well.

The Red Devils were off and running from the opening tip, building a 19-6 advantage over the opening four and a half minutes. Dickinson continued to hold a double-digit lead throughout the game, taking a 40-26 lead into halftime.

First-year Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) drained a trio of three-pointers in a span of just over two minutes, stretching the lead to 28-12 at the 13:23 mark. Dickinson shot 56 percent from the field, hitting 6-of-10 free throws in the opening half.

The Red Devils kept building the lead in the early minutes of the second half. Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) triggered an early run, scoring on the Devils first possession. Honig and Wixted knocked-down three-pointers as the lead grew to 54-35, at the 16:22 mark.

Honig buried another three-pointer to give him 1000 points in his career. He later gave Dickinson its biggest lead of the night, 68-44, with 9:40 remaining in the contest.

Marietta continued to battle down the stretch, but could simply not gain any ground on the Devils. Senior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School, Conn.) saw limited action, after being sick during the week. Senior Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) and Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) gave the Devils quality minutes while Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) played well in the post.

Four players reached double-figures for Marietta. Jacob Owens (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield) led the Pioneers with 15 points, sinking 4-of-8 three-pointers. Tyler Hammond (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) scored 12 points and dished out a game-high five assists.

J.J. Martin (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) tallied 11 points and controlled eight rebounds. Garrett Stephenson (West Milton, Ohio/Milton-Union) also matched a game-high with eight rebounds, adding 13 points on the night.

Marietta finishes the season, 20-8 overall. The Red Devils add another school record win, improving to 21-7. Dickinson will likely travel to what is rumored to be one of the loudest gyms in Division III, Wooster College in Ohio. More information will be available on Monday afternoon.
