(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team earned Co-Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors, capturing the 2013 Conference Championship over the weekend.
Junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) were named Co-Players of the Week. Honig and Wixted both recorded back-to-back double-double performances in the tournament, leading the Red Devils to their first title since 1997.
Honig led the Red Devils to the Centennial Conference Championship, averaging 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the tournament, handing out seven assists and hitting 13-of-17 free throws. He tallied 10 points and recorded a game-high 11 rebounds, dishing out six assists, and going 6-for-6 from the stripe. He scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the final.
Wixted averaged 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the tournament. He went 5-for-6 from the foul line and 5-for-9 from the three-point line, blocking six shots to go with four assists and a pair of steals. He knocked-down some timely three-pointers in both games. The Devils closed out both games strong, posting a decisive, 64-40, victory in the championship game.
The Red Devils set a school record with their 20th win of the season, improving to 20-7 on the year. The Devils shot 80 percent from the line as a team (36-45). Dickinson earned the conference's automatic bid and will host Marietta College in the first round. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Saturday night.
