Slow Start Costs Devils in Road Loss at Muhlenberg
(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball had enjoyed some strong starts in the past few games, but experienced the opposite on Wednesday night, as Muhlenberg gained the early advantage, taking a 40-25 lead at halftime. The Mules went on to post a 77-59 win and keep their playoff hopes alive in Centennial Conference play.
The Mules opened a 14-4 lead in the first seven minutes, and stretched the margin to 18 at the 4:57 mark. Junior Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) hit a pair of free throws to pull the Red Devils within 11, with 1:39 remaining in the half.
Kevin Hargrove answered with a lay-up and two free throws to put Muhlenberg in front, 40-15, at the break.
The Red Devils made a late run after playing even with the Mules over the course of the second half. Junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) cut the deficit to single digits with a free throw at the 5:18 mark.
The Devils trailed by eight, just a minute later, but Muhlenberg held on with some solid free throw shooting down the stretch. The Mules converted 11-of-13 in the final 3:07 to secure the win.
Hargrove finished with a game-high 24 points, grabbing 17 rebounds for a double-double. Austin Curry added 18 points and Matt O'Hara tallied 15 as Muhlenberg improved to 13-9 on the season and 9-6 in the Centennial Conference.
Honig led the Red Devils with 18 points and a pair of steals. First-year Brandon Angradi (Milford, Del./Delaware Valley) hit 3-of-5 three-pointers, scoring 11 points to go with four rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the conference. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
