Devils Suffer 60-51 Setback in Pizza Hut Tip-Off Opener
| (Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's basketball team rallied but fell in the opening round of the Pizza Hut Tip-off Tournament on Friday night. The Devils suffered a 60-51 setback to Hobart College. |
Sophomore Matt Pebole scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, adding seven rebounds to lead the Statesmen to a 1-1 start on the season.
Hobart jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before the Devils battled back to tie the game at 13-13 with 10:50 remaining in the first half. The Devils pulled in front at one point and trailed just 28-22 at the break.
The Statesmen used a 14-3 run to open the second half, pulling in front 42-25 at the 14:10 mark. Dickinson answered with a 12-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to just seven with 8:40 left to play.
Hobart held on, shooting well from the free throw line down the stretch. They finished the night 16-of-20, led by Stefan Thompson, who went 12-of-14 from the stripe, scoring 16 points.
First-year Chris Barsanti Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) led the Red Devils with 12 points, hitting 7-of-7 free throws on the night.
Juniors Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) and Chris Harrington (Cheverly, Md./Georgetown Prep) each added 10 points and combined for nine rebounds.
First-year Vince White (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends)came off the bench to score eight points and control a game-high eight rebounds. Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) added eight rebounds as well and chipped in with five points.
The Red Devils (0-1) will face Penn State York (0-3) in the consolation game at 1:30. Hobart will take on Alfred University in the championship at 3:30 pm. Alfred advanced to the final with an 81-54 decision in the other semifinal.
