Quick Starts Lead Red Devils to 4-2 Win

(Annville, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team returned to the win column with a 4-2 victory at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils struck quickly as Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) arched a shot over the defense and into the net, just 1:22 into the match, scoring off an assist from first-year Emily Mycek (Norristown, Pa./Methacton).

The score remained throughout the first half as Dickinson held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in penalty corners. The Devils did strike quickly again, opening the second half with a goal just 1:59 after the break.

Junior Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) scored the quick tally and added another to stretch the lead to 3-0, with 30 minutes remaining in the game.

Maddie Fox countered for Lebanon Valley in the 48th minute to spoil the shutout. First-year Maddie Dombroski (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) deflected a shot from Marie Laverdiere (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) ten minutes later, to put Dickinson up, 4-1.

Karli Alichwer added another for LVC, just 42 seconds later for the final of 4-2.

Dickinson finished with a 17-14 shot advantage and forced eight corners while allowing six, defensively. Victoria ByDelay and Nikki Willi each made four saves for the Dutchwomen. Senior Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made eight saves for the Red Devils as they improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Red Devils are on the road again on Tuesday, traveling to Shenandoah University for a 7:00 pm start.
