Eagles Rally Past Devils in Season Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team struck first against Juniata but the Eagles rallied in the second half for a 2-1 win in the season opener for both teams.

 

Junior Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) put the Devils on the board, converting a penalty stroke in the 25th minute.

 

The Red Devils controlled possession for the majority of the first half, holding a 12-4 advantage in shots.

 

Sara Spencer came off the bench to score twice in the second half. She tied the game off an assist from Sara Bilheimer with just over 21 minutes remaining in the game. She struck again at the 14 minute mark, putting the Eagles in front, 2-1 with an assist from Tori Buser.

 

Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) played solid in goal, making three saves while Chloe Morakis (Potomac, Md./Wootton) anchored a strong defensive effort.

 

Junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) and newcomer Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) kept the offensive pressure on up front, combing for eight shots, putting six on target.

 

Shelby Miller made seven saves before Julianne Jones came on to stop four shots for Juniata.

 

The Red Devils are in action again on Saturday, hosting Shenandoah University at 1:00 pm.
