Fired Up Bullets Top Devils on Senior Day

 

 

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team ran into an inspired and motivated Gettysburg on senior day, falling to the Bullets, 4-1.

 

Liz Baron struck with an unassisted goal in the ninth minute to put the Bullets on the board. They held a 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Devils, 13-5, in the opening 35 minutes.

 

Baron deflected a shot from Kelly Spieker into the cage in the 47th minute to stretch the lead to, 2-0. Hannah Fitzgerald gave the Bullets a 3-0 advantage with 14:56 remaining in the game, scoring on a backhanded shot from the left wing.

 

Baron picked up an assist on a 2-on-1, feeding Ashleigh Guise for her sixth goal of the season, with 2:41 left to play.

 

Senior forward Lauren Wyman (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) spoiled the shutout, just 1:06 later, putting away a rebound off the post, with 1:35 on the clock.

 

Senior Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) turned in a strong performance in the cage, despite the outcome. She finished with 12 saves on the afternoon. Junior defender Fallon Winters (Spring Lake, N.J./Northfield Mount Hermon) added a defensive save as well.

 

Alexis Bralow made eight saves in goal for Gettysburg. The Bullets outshot the Devils 23-13 and held a 12-8 advantage on penalty corners. The Bullets improve to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference.

 

The Red Devils slip to 12-5 overall and finish 7-3 in the conference. They will be the #3-seed in the conference tournament.  Dickinson will face #2-seed Ursinus College on the semifinals, which will be at top-seed Franklin & Marshall.
