Devils Fall to Spartans 3-1
(York, Pa.) - The Dickinson College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss at York College on Tuesday. The Red Devils dominated the game on paper, outshooting the Spartans 20-11, putting 16 shots on the cage. The Red Devils also doubled-up York in penalty corners, forcing 14 while allowing just seven on the defensive end.
York put a goal on the scoreboard just under 11 minutes into the game when Sandee Reich scored off a rebound on a shot from Casey Lawrence. The Spartans stretched the lead to 2-0 with just 1:14 remaining in the half as Jillian Brezgel poked a shot inside the left post off an assist from Brittany Simmons.
First-year Lauren Wyman (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) cut the deficit in half, re-directing a pass from Lizzie Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) in the 53rd minute, making the score 2-1.
York tallied an insurance goal five minutes later as Kailey Brewer scored an unassisted goal at the 57:54 mark.
First-year goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) made three saves while York's Lydia Pirie was forced to make 12 stops.
The Spartans improve to 6-5 overall while Dickinson slips to 2-8. The Red Devils return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
