Eagles Edge Devils 2-1 in Overtime

(Bridgewater, Va.) - The Dickinson College field hockey team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss, falling in overtime to Bridgewater College on Sunday afternoon.

 

Following a scoreless first half, senior Kalah Hess put Bridgewater on the board just 12 seconds after the break. She finished an assist from Kristen Combs at the 35:12 mark.

 

The Red Devils answered just three minutes later as sophomore Tanya Bellingham (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) tied the game with an assist from senior Lizzie Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) with 31:20 remaining in regulation.

 

The teams battled scoreless the rest of the way, forcing overtime. Hess would tally again with 2:09 to play in the extra period. Jennifer Tompkins was credited with the assist, leading the Eagles to a 2-0 start to the season.

 

First-year goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) gave another strong performance, making six saves. Classmate Alex Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) anchored a solid defensive effort and played a key role in the Devils' transition game.

 

The Red Devils slip to 0-2. They return home to host Elizabethtown College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
