Eagles Rally Past Devils in Season Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss in its home opener at Biddle Field on Friday afternoon. The Red Devils struck first in the opening seven minutes, but the Eagles rallied with a pair of second half goals to earn the win.

 

Junior Lizzie Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) put the Devils on the board, scoring off her own rebound just 6:17 into the contest.

 

The Red Devils controlled the tempo for the better part of the first half, forcing six penalty corners and holding a 13-2 advantage in shots.

 

The Eagles continued to battle, tying the game in the 54th minute as Christina Pybus scored with an assist from Kalah Hess, following a corner.

 

Junior Leah Cossentino tallied the game-winner with just under 12 minutes remaining, converting an assist from classmate Brianna Jacques.

 

Dickinson continued to press on attack, creating some quality opportunities in the final minutes. The Eagle defense held in front of sophomore Taylor Waddell, who finished with 16 saves.

 

The Devil defense held Bridgewater to just five shots on the afternoon, allowing just three corners. The Devils recorded 25 shots and held an 8-3 advantage on corners.

 

Dickinson is home again tomorrow, hosting Eastern Mennonite University at 12:00.
