Tucker Joins Team Stars & Stripes for 2011 Tazon de Estrellas

(Granbury, Texas) – Dickinson College senior Michael Tucker (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) will strap on his helmet for Team Stars & Stripes this Saturday, joining a group of Division III football players from across the country to face the CONADEIP All-Stars from Mexico in the third annual Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of Stars). A total of 53 players from 28 NCAA Division III colleges have been selected to join Team Stars and Stripes.

Tucker made his second appearance on the All-Centennial Conference squad this fall, earning honorable mention last season. Tucker anchored the offensive line, and also played defense and on special teams in certain situations this fall. His versatility made him a valuable asset to the Red Devils and the offensive line.

The Red Devils finished third in the CC in rushing offense, averaging 164 yards on the ground, per game. They were tied for third in sacks allowed, giving up just 18 in over 200 attempts on the year. The Red Devils ran for a season-high 306 yards at Gettysburg and totaled over 300 yards of offense in six games. They tallied 391 yards against McDaniel and were held below 200 yards just once this season.

Tucker finished just shy of the century mark, recording 98 knockdowns as an offensive guard. He tallied a season-high 19 in the win over McDaniel and reached double-figures in four games in 2011. Tucker will represent classmates Eric Lopez (Miami, Fla./Columbus) and Corwyn Gordon (Hanover, Pa./South Western), who played key roles on the Devil offensive line with Tucker for the past four seasons.

The Devils captured Centennial Conference rushing titles in both 2008 and 2009, and ranked in the top three in both 2010 and 2011. They set the school records for passing yards in a season in 2008 and tallied the third highest output in 2009 while leading the conference in Red Zone offense in 2009 as well.

Tucker joins a distinguished fraternity of Red Devils who have participated in the annual event, dating back to 1998. The Tazon de Estrellas was formerly known as the Aztec Bowl. In 2009, the name was officially changed. Team Stars & Stripes triumphed, 48-7, last year after suffering a 24-12 setback to the Tec Monterray All-Stars in 2009.

The game will be broadcast live on December 17th, on GlobalFootball.com. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
