Red Devil Football Goes Global
(Frankfurt, Germany) - Former Dickinson College players Ian Mitchell (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) '10 and Andrew Ciukurescu (Ambler, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) '10 have taken Red Devil football universal. Mitchell was drafted by the Frankfurt Universe to play professionally in Germany. When the team's center went down with an injury during preseason, Mitchell recommended his former classmate and teammate for the job.
Ciukurescu was given the opportunity, and has been the starting center all season. Mitchell has turned in some outstanding performances, leading the Universe to a 5-0 start in his rookie campaign. Mitchell will return to Dickinson at the conclusion of his playing season to assume his role as an assistant coach with the Red Devil football team.
Mitchell leads the Universe offense, rushing for just under 500 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. In addition, he has thrown for 850 yards and 10 scores on the year. Click here for cumulative season statistics.
Mitchell broke numerous Centennial Conference and school records during his career at Dickinson. He was a three-time All-Conference selection, earned team Rookie of the Year honors in 2006, and was voted the team's offensive MVP in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Ciukurescu earned All-Conference recognition in both 2008 and 2009 as well. They led the Red Devils into postseason play in 2006 and 2007, capturing the 2006 Centennial Conference Championship.
