Heartbreak Haunts Red Devils in 10-9 Setback

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team has been plagued with heartbreaking losses all season and Tuesday proved to be more of the same as visiting Gettysburg rallied in the top of the eighth inning to slip away with a 10-9 victory. The Red Devils have endured four, one-run setbacks in the Centennial Conference this season

The Bullets jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led 4-1 after the Red Devils tallied lone runs in the second and third.

Gettysburg scored three more in the fourth but the Red Devils would answer with a four-run, two-out rally in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-6. Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) started the rally with a triple while first-year Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) recorded his second straight RBI single of the game.

The Bullets added a run in the top of fifth before Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) doubled to score Pell and Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) and came in himself on an error to put Dickinson on top, 9-8.

The Bullets capitalized on a pair of errors in the ninth to plate a pair of runs to escape with a 10-9 decision.

Pell went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a runs scored with Chudacoff added a single to a pair of doubles while Reilly tallied two hits and scored twice on the day.

Billy O'Neil (South Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) recorded seven strikeouts in the start, working four innings.

The Red Devils slip to 6-20 overall and 3-8 in the Centennial Conference. They have a shot at redemption on Friday, heading to Gettysburg for a 3:30 start to complete the series.
