Big Bats Lead Messiah Past Devils

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team ran out of light after eight innings, falling to visiting Messiah College, 19-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils went into the game pitching by committee, sending 10 different hurlers to the hill.

David Farnham (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) singled and came in to score off the bat of first-year Brian Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) to trade runs with the Falcons in the second inning.

Messiah got the bats going with four runs in the third and fifth innings, and three in the third to lead 12-3 at the end of five.

The Red Devils added a pair of runs in the fourth as Chudacoff tallied another RBI with a single to score Austin Morgan (Aston, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Brandon Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Joe Pepe (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville).

The Falcons tallied two in the seventh and five in the eighth before the game was called for darkness.

Pepe and Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) each recorded a pair of hits for the Red Devils while Chudacoff finished with two RBIs on the day.

Colin Fry and Josh Hayner each tallied three hits and four runs for Messiah at they improve to 6-13.

The Red Devils slip to 6-16 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Friday, traveling to McDaniel College for a 3:30 pm start.
