(Los Angeles, Calif.) – The Dickinson baseball team traveled to Los Angeles to face Occidental College on Friday to close out its west coast swing. The Tigers claimed both ends of a double-header, taking game one 6-4, and the nightcap, 9-1.
The Tigers scored lone runs in each of the first three innings of game one to counter a solo homerun off the bat of Adam Quine (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) in the second.
The Red Devils pulled even as Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire) doubled and came in on a double from first-year Brendon Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter). Pell moved around on a pair of passed balls to knot the game, 3-3.
Occidental used back-to-back doubles and a sacrifice fly to score a pair of runs in the seventh and tacked on another in the bottom of the eighth.
The Red Devils closed the gap in the top of the ninth but could only plate one as Daniel Zamarin (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) doubled and pinch-runner Ryan Fuscaldo (Phoenixville, Pa./Haverford School) came on to work his way around to score as Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh) reached on an error for the final of 6-4.
Chudacoff went 2-for-4 at the plate. Ethan Collins (Elmer, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) gave a seven strikeout effort over 4.1 innings before Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) came on to finish, scatting five hits and recording two strikeouts.
In game two, Eamon McNeil hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to start things off and the Tigers added lone runs in the third and fifth and a pair in the eighth.
The Red Devils spoiled the shutout in the top of the ninth as Fuscaldo stepped in to hit a double and scored on a single from Austin Seabolt (Travernier, Fla./Coral Shores).
Six different players had hits while sophomore Tommy Koide (Morristown, N.J./West Morris Mendham) came on to throw 4.2 strong innings of relief, recording five strikeouts.
The Red Devils fall to 3-11 on the season. They return east to host Penn State Harrisburg at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
