Unbeaten Hood Spoils Home Opener for Devils

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team had a tough outing in its home opener, dropping a 15-2 decision to unbeaten Hood College. The Mustangs put together a pair of big innings as they improved to 8-0 on the season.

The Red Devils put a run on the board in the bottom of the second after a lead-off single from Pat Davis (New Providence, R.I./Morristown-Beard). Senior Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) singled and Davis came around to score on an RBI double from first-year Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter).

Hood came alive with five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run triple by Cam Esposito. The Mustangs capitalized on some Red Devil miscues in the fifth, stretching the lead to 11-1.

First-year Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) singled in the bottom of the sixth and moved to third on a double off the bat of Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh). He came in to score on a sacrifice fly from Daniel Zamarin (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy).

The Mustangs tacked on four in the seventh, with three coming across unearned. Dickinson looked to rally, but left runners stranded on second and third in the bottom half of the inning.

The game was called on account of darkness, following the eighth, with the final of 15-2.

Esposito and Nathan Kessler each had three hits and three RBIs while Brad Sawyer went five innings to earn the win for Hood.

Cohen led the Devils at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. First-year Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) earned the start on the mound, going four innings. First-year Teddy Reddington (Reston, Va./Flint School) turned in a strong performance on the hill in the eighth, recording a pair of strikeouts.

The Red Devils slip to 2-2 on the season. They are scheduled to play Penn State Mont Alto on Wednesday, but weather may force that game to be postponed.
