(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team took an early lead but host Elizabethtown rallied and came out on top of a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, 8-6.
Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) and Stephen Sakowicz (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) both had singles and scored in the first inning to put the Red Devils on the board. Junior Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) added an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the inning as well
The Blue Jays answered with one in the bottom half of the inning. The Devils tallied one in the top of the second as Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double from Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown Beard).
Carter reached on an error to load the bases and Alex Jacobson (Gaithersburg, Md./St. John's College) was hit by a pitch to earn an RBI and stretch the lead to 3-1.
The Blue Jays scored three runs in the bottom of the third to pull in front 4-3. Chudacoff singled to score Matilsky and Jacobson in the fourth to put Dickinson back in front by a run.
Elizabethtown would use four hits and an error to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, 8-5.
The Red Devils looked to rally in the top of the ninth as Chudacoff reached on a single and pinch-runner Joe Pepe (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Pat Davis (New Providence, N.J./Morristown-Beard) for the final of 8-6.
Matilsky went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored while Chudacoff went 2-for-4 with three RBIs on the day.
The Blue Jays improve to 13-8 overall while the Red Devils slip to 16-12. Dickinson returns to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday, traveling to McDaniel College for a 3:30 pm start.
