(Mont Alto, Pa.) – Dickinson sophomore Ben Rappaport (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke's) had a no-hitter going through six innings on Thursday as the Red Devil baseball team posted a 13-1 win at Penn State Mont Alto.
Rappaport faced just 20 batters in the first six innings and recorded three strikeouts in the seventh. He opened the eighth with back-to-back bookings before Colby Black spoiled the no-hitter with a single. Rappaport went 7.2 innings to earn the win, finishing with a career-high 12 strikeouts.
The Red Devils struck early, scoring twice in the first inning after first-year Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) started things off with a double.
Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) reached on a walk and worked his way around to stretch the lead to 3-0. The Red Devils pushed across three runs in the third behind a two-run single by Adam Quine (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley).
Ryan Fuscaldo (Phoenixville, Pa./The Haverford School) and Brown led-off the sixth with back-to-back doubles as Dickinson erupted for five runs to stretch the lead to 11-0.
First-year Nick Sacoman (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) added a two-RBI double and scored in the inning as well.
A lead-off walk led to an unearned run in the seventh for Mont Alto. The Devils answered as Roberto Valentini (Edgewood, R.I./Moses Brown) tallied an RBI double to score Joe Pepe (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) in the seventh and sophomore Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) closed things out with a solo homerun in the top of the eighth.
Sacoman went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Carter finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Quine went 2-for-2.
The Red Devils improve to 10-8 on the season. They return home for a double-header with Juniata College on Saturday. The First pitch of game one is set for 12:30 pm.
