Westfield State Takes Two From Devils

(Auburndale, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team dropped a double-header to Westfield State University on Thursday, falling 7-1 and 8-1, as they come to the close of the week in Florida.

Westfield State scored in the second, third and fourth innings of game one to take a 7-0 lead. The Red Devils produced a run in the fifth, but that would be all as they dropped the opener, 7-1.

The Owls capitalized on some miscues in the second inning to put four runs on the board behind an error and RBI singles from Arismendy Larancuent and Dan Rokitowski.

Larancuent added another RBI in the third, driving in John Lippincott for an unearned run with a sacrifice fly.

The Owls would tack on two more runs with two outs in the fourth. Alex Lafayette tripled down the right field line and came in on a single from Lippincott. Lippincott stole second and came around on an RBI single from Anthony Crowley.

Sophomore Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) looked to get something started in the top of the fifth, leading off the inning with a triple to left center. First-year Max Matilsky (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) followed up with a double to score Brown and put the Red Devils in the board.

Brown led the way in the opener, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) added a triple as well. Sophomore Ben Woodard (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) suffered the loss, recording three strikeouts in a five-inning effort.

The Red Devils scored in the bottom of the first inning of game two with three straight singles from Adam Quine (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) and an RBI rip from Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).

The Owls came back with one in the top of the second on an RBI single from Crowley. Lippincott drove in two runs in the fifth and Rokitowksi added an RBI and a runs scored to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Crowley doubled in the seventh to drive in a pair of unearned runs for the final of 6-1.

The Red Devils tallied five lone singles while Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) suffered the loss on the hill, recording three strikeouts and allowing just three earned runs.

The Red Devils slip to 8-6 on the season. They wrap up the week in Florida tomorrow in a double-header with Hamilton College at 2:30 pm.
