Red Devils Improve to 8-3 With Win Over Suffolk

(Auburndale, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team improved to 8-3 on the season, holding on for a 2-1 win over Suffolk University on Monday afternoon.

The Red Devils put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning as junior Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) started things off with a one-out single. He moved to second on a stolen base and came in to score on a Suffolk error for a 1-0 lead.

First-year Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) singled on the play and moved to second on the error. He came around to score as sophomore Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) doubled to give the Devils a 2-0 advantage.

The Rams answered in the bottom half of the inning as Kevin Higgins led-off with a triple and immediately came in to score on an RBI single from Trevor Lee.

The Red Devils looked to add some insurance as Brown added another single in the seventh and moved to third, but he was left stranded at the end of the inning.

First-year Ethan Collins (Elmer, N.J./Arthur P. Shalick) had a strong outing on the hill, recording eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings to earn the win. Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) came on in relief, earning the save. He allowed just two hits and booked four strikeouts in a solid effort, going 3.2 innings.

Brown went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) and Austin Sumners (W. Trenton, N.J./The Pennington School) each tallied two hits on the day.

The Red Devils (8-3) return to the diamond on Wednesday morning, facing The College of New Jersey at 9:30 am.
