Red Devils Sweep Chargers in Home Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team swept a double-header with Lancaster Bible College on Saturday afternoon, claiming the opener, 7-0, and the nightcap, 9-2.

 

The Red Devils used five hits to push across two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and came in to score off an RBI single from Sam Wachs (Severna Park, Md./Severn School). Wachs came around to score on a single from Matt Primavera (Edenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill).

 

Sophomore Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) also singled in the inning and stole a base, but was stranded on second. Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) singled and scored in a double from Tursi to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the third.

 

The Red Devils capitalized on a pair walks, a hit batter and an error to tack on four more runs in the fifth inning. Wachs singled and Conor Foote (Narberth, Pa./Lower Marion) pinch-ran, scoring on a passed ball. Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was hit by a pitch and Primavera reached on a walk.

 

Foote came in off the bat of Parker and Crawford scored on a single from Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield). Parker added another run, coming across on a wild pitch.

 

Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) went 2-for-3 in the game while Tursi finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) went six innings, surrendering just two hits while recording seven strikeouts. Bryan Wacker (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) came on to close out the game, adding a strikeout in the seventh.

 

The Red Devils scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish off game two, 9-2. Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesix) allowed just two hits while striking out 12 batters in six innings of work.  

 

Back-to-back singles by Wachs and Jake Otis (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) put the Devils on the board in the second inning of the nightcap. Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added a single, stolen base and scored in the third. He scored three times, going 3-for-4, driving in a run in the sixth.

 

Haynes doubled twice and scored in the fourth and sixth innings. He drove in four runs in the nightcap as well. Wachs went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two.

 

The Chargers scored twice in the fourth inning to tie the game before the Red Devils answered with three in the bottom half of the inning. James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose)walked, stole a base and started a four-run seventh. Luke Besse (Martson Mills, Mass./Barnstable) scored two runs, reaching twice on a fielder's choice and was hit by a pitch.

 

The Red Devils improve to 2-2 on the season. They host Messiah College at 3:00 pm on Tuesday.
